Mitchell and mother moved from California to Dallas Texas from California in 1970. In 1975 Mitchell's mother got married to Joseph Mitchell. Mitchell went to Booker T. Washington High School of the Performing and Visual Arts, a public magnet high school. Mitchell is the third of siblings. One of them is Kristina Kristie Mitchell. Katherine Day Kate Mitchell was born that same year. Mitchell received the degree of bachelor of acting studies from Stephens College in 1991. She also studied at British American Drama Academy. Her most prominent role is currently playing the character of Special Agent Emily Prentiss on the CBS crime show Criminal Minds. On June 2010, the show announced that her Criminal Minds role would be cut in half for the sixth-season. Brewsters' character left the show in March 2011and could come back to the show when she is older.
